Biography

Jamie Chadderton is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at UC Berkeley investigating how physics-informed machine learning can be used to predict α-decay observables. His work combines evaluated nuclear structure data with physical models of the decay process to train neural networks that respect the underlying physics, with the aim of extracting structure information and improving predictions for nuclei where measurements are scarce or difficult to perform.

Previously, he studied heavy and superheavy nuclei through in-beam and decay spectroscopy during his Ph.D. at the University of Liverpool, in collaboration with the University of Jyväskylä, and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's 88-Inch Cyclotron, where he helped develop detector instrumentation for the Berkeley Gas-filled Separator and was a collaborator with the Heavy Element Group.
