Consultant
Dr. Walid Younes is a consultant who has been working with the Nuclear Data Program since its inception. He has over 25 years of experience in experimental and theoretical nuclear physics, with a specialization in gamma-ray spectroscopy, neutron-induced reactions, and the physics of systems of fissioning nuclei. Dr. Younes spent 20 years as a staff physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Since 2006, his work has focused on theoretical nuclear physics, developing a microscopic theory of fission, starting from neutrons, protons, and an effective interaction between them. He has served as a guest instructor for several graduate nuclear physics courses in the UC Berkeley Department of Nuclear Engineering, has recently published one book devoted to the microscopic theory of fission, and has a related textbook currently underway.
