Jon Batchelder

Research Scientist

Biography

Jon Batchelder is an Assistant Research Engineer in the Nuclear Engineering Department at UC Berkeley and a nuclear structure evaluator with more than two decades of experience measuring the properties of nuclei far from stability using radioactive beams and decay spectroscopy. These experiments entailed the measurement of many different types of radioactive decays including beta decay, direct alpha and proton emission, and beta-delayed alpha, proton and neutron decay. Before coming to UC Berkeley in 2015, he was a staff scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (via Oak Ridge Associated Universities) running an experimental program centered on radioactive beams available at ORNL.
